Strong evidence points to the healing benefits of herbs and other remedies readily available in nature; things such as charcoal, garlic, golden seal, tea tree oil, and aloe vera. Some might say that charcoal is one of the best-kept secrets in the world of healing.
Charcoal has the amazing ability to attract other substances to its surface and hold them there through the process of adsorption. It can adsorb many times its own weight in gases, heavy metals, poisons, and other chemicals, effectively neutralizing them.
Charcoal is used in hospitals throughout the United States. The form of charcoal used for medical purposes is called activated charcoal. It is harmless, and safe for internal use if used for short periods of time. Charcoal actually has the ability to draw harmful inflammatory toxins through the skin and into the poultice or compress.86
Another example of a healing remedy found in nature is aloe vera, well known for helping burn victims.87 Aloe vera can help in cancer treatment,88 can increase the absorption of vitamins C and E,89 and is potentially helpful for wounds, edema and pain relief in diabetics.90 It even improves the skin.91
