Scientific Support for Trust

Opening your heart to God enriches you in many ways.
A study of 560 households has revealed that people who pray are happier, more satisfied, and enjoy a deeper sense of well-being about the direction their lives are headed.
In addition, those with religious allegiance are significantly less likely to experience physical illness, mental symptoms, or difficulties with socialization. Researchers have offered many explanations. They range from adherence to the healthy lifestyle prescribed by religious teachings to divine intervention.
Future studies will be required to identify the reason why trust in a divine power is a pathway to optimal physical and mental health. In the meantime, the scientific data clearly indicates that opening your heart to God will enrich you in ways other than through improved spiritual health.
Depression is both a symptom and a syndrome. It can be triggered by a major upheaval in your life and can, by itself, cause major changes in your health.
Scientists have shown that depression can worsen the symptoms of pain, result in greater reporting of physical illness symptoms, and lessen the likelihood that its victims will engage in healthy pursuits.
No wonder trust in a divine power has the potential to influence so many aspects of mental and physical health. That’s because religion has proven to be a highly effective means by which to reduce depression. This is especially true of those with conservative theological beliefs and those with large amounts of social support.
